Rajasthan in 7 Days: The Classic Circuit Itinerary
Seven days in Rajasthan forces one honest decision: you cannot have both Jaisalmer and a sane pace. This route chooses sanity — four bases, no 600-km days, and the desert deferred to your next trip (or to the 10-day version). Every night’s bed is planned; every drive is under five hours.

Day by day
Day 1 — Land in Jaipur. Fly into Jaipur (or take the morning train from Delhi, ~4.5h). Ease in: check in, thali lunch, then Hawa Mahal’s façade and an evening drift through Bapu Bazaar. Early night — Day 2 starts at dawn.
Day 2 — Jaipur’s big day. Amber Fort at opening, Panna Meena stepwell, Jal Mahal photo stop, long lunch, then City Palace and Jantar Mantar, closing with sunset from Nahargarh. (This compresses our 2-day Jaipur plan — steal its timings.)
Day 3 — To Pushkar. A gentle 3-hour drive. Afternoon: Brahma Temple and the bazaar crawl. Dusk: the ghat circuit as bells ring the lake into evening. Sleep to temple sounds instead of traffic.
Day 4 — To Jodhpur. Optional dawn climb to Savitri temple, then ~3 hours southwest. Afternoon in the Toorji ka Jhalra stepwell quarter — café, golden-hour geometry — and dinner on a rooftop under the floodlit fort.
Day 5 — Jodhpur’s big day. Mehrangarh all morning (the audio guide is genuinely great), Jaswant Thada after, Blue City lanes as the light softens, and Sardar Market’s clock-tower evening with a makhaniya lassi verdict.
Day 6 — The beautiful drive. Jodhpur → Udaipur the long, right way: via Ranakpur, where 1,444 carved marble pillars hold up a forest temple (remember: visitor hours start midday — time your arrival for noon). Wind through the Aravallis to Udaipur by late afternoon for the sunset boat across Pichola to Jag Mandir.

The honest trade-offs
- Jaisalmer: adding it means two long travel days and a gutted middle. If the dunes are non-negotiable, take the 10-day route or swap Pushkar for a flight to Jaisalmer — but don’t force it into 7 days.
- Direction: the route runs west-then-south so it ends in Udaipur — the best city to end in, with good onward flights.
- Drives: hire one car and driver for the circuit (standard practice, priced per km/day) — the Pushkar and Ranakpur legs are where trains can’t take you. Trains work fine for Jaipur↔Jodhpur if you prefer rails.
When to run it
October–March. Shoulder months (Sept, early April) work with earlier mornings. Peak December–January needs bookings weeks ahead — this circuit is popular for good reason.
