Planning a first trip to Rajasthan
Rajasthan is India's largest state and its most visited after the Golden Triangle — which means it's also the most written about, mostly by people working from a press trip and a template. This site is the opposite: opinionated, specific, and willing to tell you what to skip.
Three things decide whether a Rajasthan trip works. Distance is the first — the state is bigger than England, and Jaisalmer sits at the far western edge of it, so a seven-day trip that includes the desert will spend two of those days in a car. Season is the second: October to March is the window, and May in the Thar is genuinely dangerous rather than merely uncomfortable. Pace is the third, and the one people get wrong most often — four cities in seven days sounds efficient and feels like a forced march.

The short answer, if you want one
Come in November. Spend two days in Jaipur, three in Udaipur, and use the spare days on Jodhpur or the Kumbhalgarh day trip. Sleep by the lake in Udaipur, and book that room before anything else.
