Rajasthan Itineraries

Most Rajasthan itineraries you'll find online are lists of monuments with no sense of distance. They'll cheerfully put Jaisalmer and Udaipur on consecutive days — nine hours apart — or schedule Amber Fort at noon in May. The plans below are built the other way round: from drive times, opening hours, and how much a person can actually enjoy in one day.

Every itinerary tells you where you sleep each night, because that single decision drives everything else. It's also the thing most guides leave out.

Which one should you choose?

• 2 days — a Jaipur stopover, usually bolted onto the Golden Triangle with Delhi and Agra.
• 3 days — one city done properly. Udaipur if you want lakes and palaces; Jaisalmer if you want the desert.
• 7 days — the classic circuit: Jaipur, Pushkar, Jodhpur, Udaipur. Comfortable pacing, no desert.
• 10 days — the full pentagon, Jaisalmer and a night on the dunes included. The one we'd pick.

The trade-off nobody tells you

Rajasthan is bigger than England, and Jaisalmer sits at the far western end of it — a road dead-end near the Pakistan border. Adding the desert to a seven-day trip means two long travel days and a hollowed-out middle. That's why our 7-day route deliberately leaves it out and the 10-day route keeps it. If the dunes are non-negotiable and your time isn't, fly into Jaisalmer rather than forcing the drive.

When to run these plans

All of them assume October to March, when days sit between 22 and 30 °C. In the hotter months, shift everything an hour earlier and surrender the 1–4 pm block entirely — see the month-by-month guide for the honest version of each season.
